Damp came from Carrabelle, twenty-odd miles east along the coast, and drove over twice a week for eleven years in a truck with no passenger door.
Damp's kit was a bass drum, a snare, one floor tom and a ride cymbal with a crack in it, set up on a sheet of plywood to keep it out of the water that came under the tin building at high tide.
The solo on the second record began at the end of the second verse of another song. Damp has never said what started it. Asked what ended it, Damp said: it was finished.
Damp's first name is not in the archive. Neither is a surname. Every member has been asked and every member has said Damp.
On file. From Carrabelle. The nickname predates the band. Its origin is separately mysterious from the band name mystery. Played a seven-minute unsolicited drum solo on Bait Shop Blues. It was not planned. It was correct.
