Eugene worked the counter at the bait shop on Water Street from 1974 to 1989. He was called Fish before the band and after it. He has said the nickname refers to his job and that the archive should leave it there.
He found his bass in a dumpster behind a bar in Eastpoint and repaired it over three weekends with materials from the shop: monofilament, two-part epoxy, a cork float and a brass swivel. The swivel is still on the headstock. The bass sounded like the river.
He kept the band's records in a ledger under the bait-shop counter: shows, takings, and how many copies of each record were left. The ledger is the main source for this archive.
He is from Eastpoint, across the bay. The band's song about Eastpoint was written by Curtis. Eugene played on it without comment.
